My Students:
Textile Design Studio I is an introductory level course to sewing construction. The objective of this course is to teach students construction techniques and garment design. This course allows students to be creative and hands on. It prepares my students for post secondary education or careers in the design industry.
My Project:
After students learn basic sewing techniques, we apply the techniques and create a pillow case dress. Sounds simple, but this dress was no ordinary dress! It had meaning and purpose! These dresses are donated to an organization called “Dresses for Africa”. The dresses taught my students more than how to create a casing and sew on straps. If we can continue to fund this project, then we can donate up to 25 dresses each year and help clothe a little girl who may not have a source for clothing.
