Wimmer Student Care Fund Notecards

A vibrant, whimsical painting depicts an orange octopus with large, expressive eyes against a backdrop of turquoise water and bubbles.

Cole Z (2nd grade)

Manchester Park Elementary

In art class, second graders learned about the blue ring octopus. The blue ring octopus is very small but also very poisonous. Students first drew out their octopus using basic shape and line. Next, they painted their creature using tempera paint. Students used old marker caps to create the famous blue rings. Lastly, we used oil pastels to add seaweed.

Vibrant red poppies stand tall against a backdrop of a golden sky, their petals contrasting with the lush green foliage in the foreground.

Holly P (3rd grade)

Millbrooke Elementary

I wanted to create a peaceful piece of artwork in Georgia O’Keeffe’s realistic style, using chalk pastel and sharpie. The bold outlines gave it a stained-glass effect.

Vibrant green and yellow maple leaves fill the frame, creating a lush, natural pattern against a dark background.

Naomi T (12th grade)

Olathe South High School

Students learned a reverse painting technique with watercolor, letting leaf shapes emerge by painting the negative space around them in layers. Using an analogous color scheme, they created a composition full of harmony and depth.

A vibrant sunflower with a blue dragonfly at its center stands against a bright blue sky background.

Leah B (4th grade)

Madison Place Elementary

Students learned a few fun facts about dragonflies and looked at art by artists featuring dragonflies. Students drew a dragonfly on a flower and painted using tempera cakes.

A vibrant and whimsical painting featuring a single tulip flower in the foreground, surrounded by a colorful and patterned background of geometric shapes, hearts, and other abstract elements.

Bella A (8th grade)

Oregon Trail Middle School

Watercolors, paint pens and sharpies were used to create the effect of different patterns. I wanted it to be colorful and fun and represent Spring by displaying the sun’s rays feeding a growing flower.

"The Student Care Fund - In honor of Dr. Ron Wimmer” was established by the Olathe Public Schools Foundation in 2005. The Fund is a tribute to Dr. Wimmer’s years of service as superintendent of Olathe Public Schools and his passion for students.

Funds are disbursed to students and their families on times of special need to minimize the impact on the students and keep them in school. Great importance is placed on flexibility, with the current superintendent having control of the fund. When a disbursement is approved, checks are sent within 48 hours so immediate action can be taken to assist the student in need.

These notecards are a set of six, featuring the artwork of Olathe Public Schools' students. You may purchase a set of notecards for a suggested donation of $10 to the Wimmer Student Care Fund on our Donate Now page.

Thank you for supporting Olathe student and helping us to Meet the Need!
