My Students:
We are 61% Hispanic 29% Caucasian, 10% Other, 16% Reduced lunch 63% Free lunch 56% ELL. At RV our students tend to go through more hardships than most. From not having money, bouncing from home to home, unstable households, non-English speakers, and/or parents working long hours/night shifts. Positive relationships are key to our students' success.
My Project:
At the beginning of the year I read Wonder to my students as a read aloud. It is all about choosing kind, and being a good friend. The book is now a movie! I want them to be able to experience being in a movie theater with their friends. It is not always the case that they get to go to a movie, let alone that they can go with friends. This will also expose our students to how exciting it can be to read and then enjoy comparing their visuals to the actual movie!
My Students Need:
Funding for the student tickets and a bus for transportation. The picture is of one of the 5th grade classes.
