My Students:
The 8th grade science students will be venturing on a new quest to keep their ice cube penguins alive! This hands-on STEM project will bring the monotony of thermal energy to life! It is amazing how engaged students become when being presented with an engineering-based project that allows for creativity and data analysis.
My Project:
Students will “purchase” materials from the Igloo Depot to construct shelters for an ice cube penguin. After designing and sketching their shelters, students take the mass of their ice cube penguin and then place them in the “penguin oven” to test their insulation. During the unit, students learn more about thermal energy, heat transfer, conductors, and insulators. Students then use their knowledge to redesign their penguin shelters in hopes of keeping their ice cube penguin alive!
My Students Need:
Our students need digital scales to precisely measure their ice cube penguins.
