My Students:
Diverse backgrounds bring varying levels of environmental and emotional needs. Emotional regulation skills are taught through the counseling curriculum, however the staff feels ‘out-numbered' at times. Students will benefit more if they can be taught self-regulation strategies and can begin to rely less on 1-1 adult support for self-regulation.
My Project:
Multi-sensory rooms soothe, calm & stimulate the senses. Multi-sensory rooms prevent students from escalating behavior to the point of needing emergency safety interventions.Goal: provide students with pleasurable sensory experiences whether they are agitated or not yet. Rooms can be filled with activities such as textures,lights,sounds & smells.Teachers will use a variety of positive behavior interventions and techniques to make sure that fewer students behavior escalates.
My Students Need:
Students need various multi-sensory calming tools to aid them in self-regulation skills throughout the school day.
