My Students:
We are active, enthusiastic, and diverse 2nd graders. We use mindful movement breaks during the day to help us refocus, re-energize, or even to relax. However, we recognize that when students have workspace variety in the classroom they are empowered to find the place where they can be the most comfortable, engaged, and productive learners.
My Project:
We surveyed our students on seating options and overwhelmingly they preferred to work on the floor, low tables with cushions, and sitting on stability balls over traditional desk and chair set-ups. What the students acknowledge as best for their learning is not reflected in their current environment. We would like to provide a variety of choices for independent and small group student learning (standing desks, floor mats, cushions, stability balls, wobble stools, and scoop rockers).
My Students Need:
Our students need a classroom environment with a variety of seating options so students are able to choose a learning space which best fits their needs.
