The Olathe Public Schools Foundation celebrated it's 14th Annual Autumn Breakfast on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, featuring superintendent, Dr. Marlin Berry’s State of the District Address. The event raised well over $85,000 for the Olathe Public Schools Foundation and Olathe schools. The Olathe Medical Center returned again as presenting sponsor and was recognized for over one million dollars of support to Olathe schools.
Guests to the event were given an opportunity to meet a specific need requested by Olathe teachers throughout the district as indicated by gift tags on the table centerpieces. Guests are still able to donate to meet a specific need by clicking on the Donate Now button of this website or by calling the Foundation office.
Dr. Berry's State of the District address outlined the great success of the district including highest ever ACT scores, adequate yearly progress in math and reading and in the "all student groups" category, and the district surpassed the state target in science. ACT average scores reached an all-time high of 23.6 and the district had more national merit finalists, semi-finalists and commended scholars than ever before. All district schools are fully accredited. High school seniors received a record $30 million dollars in scholarships this year alone. The 6-8 and 9-12 reconfiguration has proved to be widely successful with teachers acknowledging a higher level of responsibility and dedication amongst ninth graders who are now attending high school.
The event was emceed by long-time Foundation friend, Gordon Docking. Guests enjoyed the music of the Olathe Northwest Da Capo Singers and the Rolling Ridge Elementary Special Chorus.
