My Students:
Over the last decade, Olathe has seen a need for mentoring our Hispanic students that are within the poverty level, need for meaningful activities after school, and a sense of belonging. In the 2016-2017 school year, the club got a grant from the OPSF to buy bikes for club members and are ready to make a larger impact on the community as a whole.
My Project:
Ideally, the future of the program will include a mobile shop to reach students in multiple schools, help the club attend events in the community and expand into the middle schools. Reaching the students early is so critical in getting them on the right track. The club will participate in community events. For example: Old Settler’s Parade, bike rodeos, car shows. The club plans on developing a mentoring program working with club alumni in college and in the professional setting.
