Ways to Give

Why Should I Give?

Olathe children deserve high quality education and facilities. Unfortunately, schools alone cannot fund the additional support that schools require. That is where you come in. The Foundation serves as the best vehicle for donors to make gifts to provide programs in our schools. Join us in inspiring and supporting Olathe students by making your gift today.

Ways to Give

Philanthropy is a personal expression of compassion and gratitude for the things people care about most. Choose the opportunity below that is right for you. If you would like more information on any of these options, please call Executive Director Cynthia VonFeldt at 913-780-8249 or send an e-mail inquiry to ckvonfeldt@olatheschools.org.

Cash

Cash gifts include checks, money orders, cash and credit card contributions. The OPSF is a 501(C)3 foundation, and tax-receipts are issued for all gifts over $5. MasterCard, VISA, American Express and Discover are accepted.

Payroll Deductions

Olathe District Schools employees may choose to make a gift via payroll deduction to support OPSF programs, the Wimmer Student Care Fund, Student Health Emergency Fund, or the A.L.L. Fund (Avid Lifetime Learners). Tax-receipts are issued for all gifts over $5.

Tribute Gifts

Any individual may make a gift to the Foundation in honor of someone else, such as a teacher, principal, student or volunteer. Honor gifts may also be made for special occasions, such as birthdays, anniversaries and graduations. These gifts can be made by mail, by phone or via our website.

Memorial Gifts

Donations may be made to the OPSF in memory of a loved one who has passed away. These gifts can be made to the general fund of the Foundation or they can be designated for a special purpose or scholarship. Please contact the Foundation office, 913-780-8222, to discuss memorial gift options.

Matching Gifts

The company an individual works for may have a Matching Gift Program where the company will match a portion of an employee’s donation to a not-for-profit organization. Please check with your employer to see if a Matching Gift Program is available. The Foundation will gratefully help you complete any necessary paperwork from your company.

Scholarships and Other Endowed Funds

There are over 20 scholarship funds and designated funds already established to which a donor may contribute. A donor may also establish a new scholarship fund or a new designated fund. Please click here for the list of current scholarship funds and other designated funds or contact the Foundation Office for guidelines on how to establish a new fund.

Bequest through Will or Living Trust

One of the most popular and simple ways to make a gift that will live after you is to give through your will or living trust. Such a designation can reduce your estate taxes. Bequests offer you the flexibility of designating a specific purpose or endowment for your gift. This option affords great estate tax advantages. Here is sample bequest wording that you may wish to share with your attorney:

"I give to the Olathe Public Schools Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation for charitable and educational purposes, in Olathe, Kansas:
(Cash Bequest)    …the sum of _____ dollars ($______).
(Stock Bequest)   … ____ shares of common stock of ________________ Corporation.
(Percentage of Estate)   … ____percent (______ %) of the residue of my estate.

I request this bequest be used by the Olathe Public Schools Foundation for the following purpose: ________________________________. I direct that no federal estate tax or state death taxes be allocated to or paid from this bequest."

If you wish to restrict your bequest to a specific school, scholarship or grant program, contact the Foundation office to determine wording that will ensure its use according to your intentions. We understand that one of the greatest donor concerns is that their gift be used in exactly the manner they intend. For the Foundation, this is an absolute!
