Introducing... Dr. B's Musical Instrument Fund

In 5th grade, Olathe students have the opportunity to explore various instruments with the end goal of joining either the band or orchestra programs.  For many, this is the first step in a lifelong love of performing. However, the cost of renting or buying an instrument is an obstacle difficult to overcome for some financially struggling families.

Because every student who wants to play should have that opportunity, the Olathe Public Schools Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of Dr. B’s Musical Instrument Fund.  The fund will allow our Fine Arts department to purchase new and used instruments and to renovate donated instruments with a goal of maintaining a consistent inventory of musical instruments available for loan to Olathe students.

Dr. B’s Musical Instrument Fund is named in honor of Dr. Alison Banikowski, on the occasion of her retirement after 32 years with the Olathe Public Schools.  Dr. Banikowski began her career as a music teacher and spent many years in a leadership role where she championed equal opportunities for all students.

The fund has been launched with a very generous grant from the OPSF Women’s Giving Circle. This gift and others will allow Olathe’s fine arts staff to build an inventory of instruments so that they are ready for Fall, 2018.

Help grow this fund and meet the need for instruments in Olathe.  Make your tax-deductible gifts online or mail your gift to OPSF, 315 N. Lindenwood, Olathe, KS  66002.
